Leaving school can be incredibly exciting, but it’s also a day of reckoning when all the support structures fall away, and our teens are expected to behave more like adults.
All change is stressful, and I’ve found that when my teens are on their devices too much, or consuming junk, it tends to be a way of soothing themselves and escaping from stresses.
Having a plan for when your teen leaves school; whether they’re going on to higher education, or starting work, can really help.
Most important is to urge them to preserve relationships that can provide them with support through the transition.
Getting them to dream big, and think about new horizons, will also help them to move forward.
